High Frequency Word List

Easy access to high frequency words promotes sight word recognition as students see the words repeatedly. A kindergartener's vocabulary level has been shown to predict their literacy skills in second grade.

Use It in the Classroom

Hear from a researcher about how spelling supports literacy in the classroom.

  • External memory aids allow students to more readily recognize and remember words. Posting word lists of high frequency words and having students create their own personal charts help them hold these spellings in their Short-term Memory and can also build their Vocabulary and Alphabet Knowledge.
  • Design It into Your Product

  • Students can also build these skills by having a place where they can refer to common spelling words on their screen. A digital spelling chart can be a pop-out window remaining on the screen that could also be editable and change based on individual student needs.
