Physical Activity & Recess

Research shows physical activity improves focus and creativity. Recess and physical education are ways for learners to exercise, which is essential for increasing oxygen flow to the brain and brain cell growth.

Use It in the Classroom

Watch a second grade teacher lead her class in a yoga session to refocus and calm their bodies and minds. Through this movement break, students are able to get their wiggles out and support their Attention for learning.

  • Teachers can incorporate extended movement during class by doing physical activities such as walking while reviewing content. Teachers can also encourage positive language and inclusive play by establishing common rules for games during recess and equipping students with simple conflict-resolution tools. This way, learners practice Self-regulation and Social Awareness & Relationship Skills while engaging in healthy play.
  • Design It into Your Product

  • Developers can build activities and games that encourage learners to engage in movement and play by using videos, prompts, and even augmented reality.
