Prompt Cards

Overview

Cards with strategies for managing emotions help students remember how to act when faced with strong feelings. Providing visual and/or verbal prompts that remind students of their calming strategies promotes Self-regulation.

Use It in the Classroom

  • Students can take Emotion cue cards on a key ring wherever they go. These cards provide helpful reminders of strategies, such as squeezing a fidget or taking a mindfulness break, when feelings escalate or when they are losing control. Over time and through repeated use, these strategies can become part of students' Long-term Memory and support their emotional Self-regulation.
  • Design It into Your Product

Videos are chosen as examples of strategies in action. These choices are not endorsements of the products or evidence of use of research to develop the feature.

Products like TestingMom's social-emotional flashcards can help students identify and express different types of emotions. Cards can provide helpful reminders of calming strategies and support students' emotional Self Regulation.

  • Products can provide a repository of digital prompt cards with audio, visuals, and/or animations for learners to access when their emotions are heightened. Having the ability to choose which strategies are part of their own personal library allows learners to identify the ones that work best for them.
