Daily Review

Overview

Daily review strengthens previous learning and can lead to fluent recall. Reviewing previously learned content on a regular basis over time strengthens neural connections that are necessary for developing expertise.

Use It in the Classroom

Watch how this teacher walks a class through their DMR (Daily Math Review). This procedure incorporates independent practice, student talk, and whole class discussion.

  • Beginning lessons with five to eight minutes of review provides regular practice. For example, daily interleaving of worked problems and problems for students to solve allows students to practice different math skills, in turn increasing fluency.
  • Design It into Your Product

Videos are chosen as examples of strategies in action. These choices are not endorsements of the products or evidence of use of research to develop the feature.

Hear how products and websites can provide extra practice for students outside of their regular math classes. By providing daily review of foundational math concepts, products can be instrumental in supporting students' deep understanding of increasingly complex math concepts.

  • Designing a quick review of previous concepts stimulates recall of the skills and concepts that are necessary to grasp the new content. Developers can insert these reviews before a new level or lesson to support automaticity and consolidation of knowledge into Long-term Memory.
