Daily Review

Daily review strengthens previous learning and can lead to fluent recall. Reviewing previously learned content on a regular basis over time strengthens neural connections that are necessary for developing expertise.

Use It in the Classroom

  • Beginning lessons with five to eight minutes of review provides regular practice. For example, daily interleaving of worked problems and problems for students to solve allows students to practice Operations skills, in turn increasing Arithmetic Fact Retrieval.
  • Design It into Your Product

Videos are chosen as examples of strategies in action. These choices are not endorsements of the products or evidence of use of research to develop the feature.

Math apps, like Multiplications with Math Mathews, can embed regular review for learners. This app includes a practice session of multiplication facts before gameplay. By allowing learners to choose which facts they review, these apps encourage learners to take ownership of knowing what they need to practice to build their Arithmetic Fact Retrieval.

  • Designing a quick review of previous concepts stimulates recall of the skills and concepts that are necessary to grasp the new content. Developers can insert these reviews before a new level or lesson to support automaticity and consolidation of knowledge into Long-term Memory.
